Three benefits to winning an Award

As a judge this year and a fortunate winner last year, there are three very clear reasons as to why I was delighted to win last year:

Firstly, the recognition this award gives our organisation, my team and wider colleagues – awards are a great way to recognise the work being done in an organisation and when actively used they can be a great tool to engage, encourage and drive the agenda forward even further.  Organisations can galvanise around the award and use it to further embed a positive mental health culture as part of a broader health and wellbeing culture.

Secondly, in a challenging market customers, clients and investors look for differentiators when making their decisions.  How organisations support their people is often one of the criteria used as part of the broader ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) decision making.  Awards such as this, which are independent and externally judged play an important role in this regard.

Thirdly, having our approach ‘judged’ by a panel of experienced, respected professionals builds on point two above and validates our approach.  It also encourages us to keep driving the agenda and performance improvement forwards, delivering improvements to our business and the people therein; completing the circle by taking us back to point one above – a cycle of improvement, development and growth.

This Can Happen Awards are more than a trophy on a shelf – they are a visible demonstration of the importance we, as a society not just an organisation, are placing on mental wellbeing in the workplace and I would encourage everyone to enter, not just because of the three reasons above but because it is an incredibly important area that we can all play a role in improving.  As a judge this year I look forward to reading your submission. Good luck!
