Almost half (46%) of NHS call staff across six ambulance trusts in England and Wales quit their roles between 2021 and 2024, citing staff shortages and abuse as their worst challenges, data analysis from trade union Unison revealed on Friday (27 March).


Zoe Sinclair, founder of mental wellbeing service This Can Happen, suggested ensuring that employee assistance programmes (EAPs) offer practical resources and clinical support.

Sinclair told HR magazine: “To proactively tackle sickness-related absence as a result of these working conditions, track early warning signs that an employee might be struggling with their wellbeing, and create space for wellbeing-related conversations.”
