Premier League and Women’s Super League (WSL) managers and players were subjected to more than 2,000 highly abusive social media posts, including death and rape threats, over a single weekend, a BBC-commissioned investigation has highlighted.
Zoe Sinclair, founder of health and wellbeing consultancy This Can Happen, described the investigation findings as “truly shocking”, adding that online abuse has “huge implications for the mental health of these individuals”.
She told HR magazine that HR professionals must be prepared to support employees facing abuse by creating a psychologically safe space at work.
