More than a third of British workers (35%) rarely leave the office during the working day, while 49% only leave their desk to use the toilet, according to research findings from telecoms firm Three UK, published on 19 January.

Zoe Sinclair, founder of health and wellbeing consultancy This Can Happen, added that these findings are shocking but unfortunately not surprising: “So many employees feel constant pressure to be at their desk, working through back-to-back meetings and feeling up against tight deadlines.”
